Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, spokesperson for Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence, stated that the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces have exercised their legitimate right to self-defence in response to an armed attack by Thai military forces.
According to the spokesperson, the clashes erupted along the Cambodia–Thailand border in Oddar Meanchey province after Thai troops crossed into Cambodian territory.
“Cambodian forces acted strictly in self-defence following an unprovoked violation of our sovereignty,” Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata said, reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment to protecting its territorial integrity in accordance with international law.
